Rumi – Oriental dreams
The Orient theme had been taken up again and again in European music since the 18th century. Animated by the discovery of new trade routes from Egypt to India, many composers incorporated the exotic and dazzling soundscapes into their work. The mysterious notions of harems, caravans with camels moving through the desert, fragrant roses in the oases, dancing dervishes and sensual female figures veiled in black arouse our curiosity and also show how our desires, longings and ideas can be projected onto the Orient.
The musical framework for the evening is provided by works by Mozart, Granados and contemporary Lebanese and Indian composers for flute, violin, guitar and piano . The literary focus of the soiree is formed by some of the most beautiful poems by Persian poets, mystics and founders of the Order of Whirling Dervishes Jalal od-Din Rumi (1207-1273). It is said that “in him the intellect of a Plato was combined with the visionary power of a Buddha and the verbal power of a Shakespeare”. That evening his thoughts and verses on the topic of love as the mainspring of the universe will be presented. Since dance has a high priority on all festive occasions in all Arab countries, a sensual belly dance will not be missing in the oriental program of the Anna Sutyagina’s Musical Salon and the audience in the Seduce the world of your own dreams.
